Assistant Director of Communication
Center for Integrated Professional Development
Jim Gee graduated with a B.S. in Communication from Illinois State University in 1996. He spent the next decade working in broadcast journalism before accepting a teaching position at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. While at Carbondale, Jim worked with students to produce a nationally award-winning television newscast. Jim returned to Illinois State in 2011, where he earned a master's degree and taught in the School of Communication. Along the way, he’s gained a lot of experience in both traditional classrooms and hands-on learning environments. Jim's interests lean towards interpretive or critical perspectives on subjects such as mass communication, media ecology, journalism, electronic media performance, and rhetoric, especially the rhetorical uses of myth.
Jim has also become fascinated with the portable digital gadgets now so pervasive in our lives, and he plans to explore their uses in the classroom. "I am a fervent believer in the idea of public higher education," he says, "and I believe it is critical for ISU to remain on the leading edge in the use of classroom technology to prepare our students across the curriculum to enter our media-saturated society.”
At the Center for Integrated Professional Development, Jim helps to promote open communication between the Center and the greater campus community. He also supports our mission through workshops that focus on using media technology in the classroom.
