I teach to be the bridge to help students connect what they are learning in my classes to their everyday lives as well as their future endeavors.

A teaching technique I recommend

Help students connect with the content of the class to create meaning. One of my daily goals is to help students realize something useful that can make a difference in their lives, both now and in the future. This could be a result of the actual material content, a technique or skill learned in class, or even a realization that a student may have about him/herself. I continuously try to help student go beyond learning the course content for short-term gain, so they can apply what they have learned to their own lives.

Most rewarding aspect of teaching

Getting to know my student and to have them be proud of their learning and subsequent accomplishments.

Best compliment from a student

That because of my encouragement and the confidence he gained in my class, he went after and got the consulting position that he would never had the courage to apply for.

My motivation to be a college professor

Comes from the idea that every time I walk into a classroom, I have the opportunity to inspire and provide a service to others. While it is possible to make a difference, no matter who you are or what you do, as college instructor we are lucky that we have a “captive” audience on a regular basis. What an opportunity to do something great for someone else!
