Teaching philosophy
The process of teaching and learning should ultimately strive to make both the student and the teacher both knowledgeable and better prepared to leave the classroom feeling capable they can make a positive contribution to society.
Most rewarding aspect of teaching
Watching students progress through the semester. It is such a great feeling when you see that look on their faces that says, “I got it! I understand now!”
Best compliment from a student
“This class has taught me a lot I did not know about myself … One communication skill I can use to build a better community is showing people that practice and hard work do pay off … Confidence is something I never really had growing up and now that I have gained confidence, I believe I can help people who struggle with this.”
Most important teaching influences
Dr. Cheri Simonds for developing both a course and training program that are nationally recognized. Additionally, she had taught me a great deal about message clarity and facilitating discussions. Dr. Stephen Hunt for his passion for political engagement and his ability to mobilize student work for the greater good.
Most challenging aspect of teaching
Every class is different! Every student is different! You must be willing to adapt and appreciate the changes and challenges that come with each new class and each new semester.
