Teaching philosophy
I seek to inspire inquisitiveness and the sustainment of that curiosity when answers are not immediately apparent.
Most important teaching influence
Deb Alley has been a major influence for me as a teacher and as a human being. She has confirmed in me an excitement not only for what I know, but also for what I might yet discover. In my observations of her teaching, I always had the sense that with each syllabus and lesson plan she developed an exciting question to ask that would compel both herself and her students. From Deb, I have observed what it is to inspire, to listen, to have patience and grace, and to give.
Best compliment from a student
Thank you for doing all that you do. I always look forward to coming to your class.
Three most valuable approaches that I bring to my teaching practice
Meaningful learning experiences typically come from goals that demand effort, rigor, and determination. My excitement for the subject is contagious. Students appreciate being cared for; I often tell my students that I will challenge them because I care about them.
Teaching technique to recommend
To be amongst a community that wonders. With wonder, there is possibility.
