Teaching philosophy
Teach like a champion. If you don’t care about what you are teaching, then why should they care about what they are learning?
Most embarrassing teaching moment
I decided to read a children’s book to my students in order to illustrate a class concept. It did not go over well. I learned that as a teacher sometimes you can learn just as much from a spectacular failure as you can from an extreme success.
Best compliment from a student
“Eric is extremely kind and genuinely cares for his students. His passion for teaching shows through his class and I enjoyed his class. I would definitely take another course with him if I had the option.”
Three most valuable approaches that I bring to my teaching practice
- I take time throughout the semester for the students to get to know one another. It is easier to give a speech in front of friends rather than strangers.
- I care about my students and treat them with respect. They know they can ask questions without fear of ridicule.
- I stress that I do not give them grades, they earn them.
Teaching technique to recommend
Provide opportunities for your students to get to know one another. Having the support and friendship of other students often goes farther than anything you can provide.
