What is the core of your teaching philosophy in one sentence?
I think this quote by Parker Palmer sums up my teaching philosophy: "People who have some sort of connective capacity, who connect themselves to their students, their students to each other, and everyone to the subject being studied, the connections made by good teachers are held not in their methods but in their hearts...the place where intellect and emotion and spirit will converge."

My experiences in the Peace Corps Nicaragua (2011-2013) and China (2014) set me down a path of being a reflective teacher and learner that have significantly shaped my teaching philosophy, especially related to being available and empathetic with students, serving as a mentor to them, and embracing DEI.
