The following message was emailed to summer instructors on 05/11/2023
Dear Instructor,
We have a few items for your consideration as you prepare to teach this summer. Chief among these is a reminder that you have the option to deliver your course(s) through either ReggieNet or with Canvas.
Students will be able to access whichever course site you publish through the My.IllinoisState portal. Note: Please avoid publishing both your Canvas and ReggieNet summer shells. Using both learning management systems is not an option.
If you choose to teach with ReggieNet, consider it “business as usual.” You can use your Summer 2023 ReggieNet course shells as you normally would. As ever, the Center for Integrated Professional Development is available to support your instructional needs in teaching with ReggieNet.
You and your students can access Canvas directly through Canvas.IllinoisState.edu.
Please note that the summer term in Canvas is set to begin on May 13. So, even if you publish a Canvas course earlier, students won’t be able to see it until this Saturday.
You will see a “Student Resources” module built into the Modules tool in your Canvas course. This module includes information and resources for students required by state and federal regulators. It also includes directions for how to navigate through Canvas courses and contains 10 short videos (less than 5 minutes each) to guide students through their required tasks in Canvas. Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself the Student Resources module and make your students aware—particularly if they are new to Canvas.
As you may recall, final grades for summer courses are accepted in August, regardless of when the summer course was offered. Technology support staff are testing the new process for exporting final grades from Canvas for submission through Faculty Center/Campus Solutions. The process is expected to be very similar to the one used with ReggieNet. Expect an update later in the summer.
Extensive teaching support is available on the Center for Integrated Professional Development’s Canvas Instructional Support pages.
The Center’s support team is available to assist instructors and staff Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at ProDev@ilstu.edu or (309) 438-2542.
Instructors should send their students to the Technology Support Center for assistance using Canvas.
