Dear Colleagues,
The fall semester starts in about eight weeks, when Canvas will fully replace ReggieNet as Illinois State’s officially supported learning management system. With that in mind, we have some important reminders, including a critical deadline coming up later in July.
July 24 is the deadline to request that old ReggieNet for-credit course sites (i.e., courses with catalogue numbers) be migrated into Canvas. You can request migrations using this form. It may take up to several weeks to migrate a course. Requests made after July 24 may not be completed before the start of the fall semester.
Migration may be the best option for instructors who wish to have the full structure of an old ReggieNet course transferred to Canvas, especially if the course makes extensive use of ReggieNet Tests & Quizzes, Lessons, Assignment, or Discussion tools.
However, many instructors from the spring pilot program found it easier to simply pull their content manually from ReggieNet and build out their courses in Canvas themselves.
You can learn more about backup vs. migration on our frequently asked questions page.
Some ReggieNet sites are not tied to courses, but rather, were created to support departmental programs, special training programs, or registered student organizations. In Canvas, these are called "Special Use Sites." These sites do have some limitations, however-- for example, Canvas Special Use sites can only be used by current Illinois State students or employees.
Please consult this guide to browse options and request the transfer of content, if needed.
Canvas Studio is a video recording, management, and sharing tool that resides inside of Canvas. It also provides cloud-based hosting of video files. Starting in Fall 2023, Canvas Studio will replace Microsoft Stream as the officially supported video platform for teaching at Illinois State University.
Instructors who hosted video files within ReggieNet’s Resources folders will have to upload those files into Canvas Studio to continue using them. Likewise, due to changes to Stream being made by Microsoft, instructors will need to load Stream-based videos into Canvas Studio as well.
To learn more about Canvas Studio and how to transfer your content, visit our Canvas Studio support pages.
Extensive teaching support is available on the Center for Integrated Professional Development’s Canvas Instructional Support pages.
The Center’s support team is available to assist instructors and staff Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at ProDev@ilstu.edu or (309) 438-2542.
Instructors should send their students to the Technology Support Center for assistance using Canvas.
