The next University Teaching and Learning Symposium is Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at the Bone Student Center.
Join hundreds of colleagues in a deep exploration of the art and science behind student success. The 2024 Symposium will be held entirely in-person at the Bone Student Center, with sessions facilitated by Illinois State faculty and staff throughout the morning. A boxed lunch will be provided. The day will also include a special workshop and an afternoon keynote address by Dr. Bryan Dewsbury, director at the RIOS (Racially-Just Inclusive Open Science) Institute at Florida International University. The Symposium concludes with a reception featuring drinks and hors d'oeuvres, showcasing poster presentations, and celebrating the annual Outstanding University Teaching Awards recipients.
Participants who choose a boxed lunch can select either a turkey sandwich with sides (regular meal) or a vegan quinoa bowl with tomatoes, herbs, olives, and navy beans (for all dietary restrictions including milk, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat, soy and sesame allergies).
Registration ended on Dec. 15, 2023.
If you have questions about meal choices or need an accommodation to fully participate in the Symposium, please email ProDev@ilstu.edu.
To thrive at the university goes beyond academic achievement to include engagement in and outside the classroom, social connectedness, and opportunities to engage with diverse perspectives. It goes beyond feelings of happiness and academic accomplishment to include feelings of connection, purpose, and growth (Su, Tay & Diener, 2014). At this year’s Symposium, we would like to center conversations on how our teaching practices can foster opportunities for ourselves, as instructors, and for our students to thrive in and out of the classroom.
The deadline to submit proposals for the Symposium has passed. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Dana Karraker at dmkarra@ilstu.edu.
