Dr. Anthony Piña joined the Center in June of 2022 as the Director of Online Education and Illinois State’s Chief Online Learning Officer. He earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Education from Brigham Young University, a Master of Science from Sullivan University, and a Doctor of Education from La Sierra University. He has taught at K-12, community college and university levels.
A nationally recognized expert in online/distance education and educational technology, Tony has served as a consultant to Fortune 500 corporations, small businesses, local government agencies, non-profit organizations, the U.S. Department of Defense, and for educational institutions across the country. He is currently serving an elected term as President of the Board of Trustees of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) Foundation. He has served previously on the AECT Board of Directors and is past-president of the AECT Division of Distance Learning. He has many scholarly publications and has won multiple best book and best article awards. He is Co-Editor of the Brill Book Series “Leadership and Best Practices in Educational Technology Management” and is on the editorial/review boards of four scholarly journals.
Away from ISU, Tony is an avid musician who loves playing guitar, bass, drums, banjo and ukulele and participating in activities with his wife, Teresa.
Tony will be providing strategic leadership and vision to guide the university’s implementation of online education. Within the Center, he will be leading the Online Education Team, including instructional design, faculty development, multimedia production and program development.
