The following message was emailed to instructors and staff on 05/12/2023
Dear Colleague,
As we celebrate the end of the spring semester, we want to look ahead to opportunities this summer centered on the transition from ReggieNet to Canvas, Illinois State’s new learning management system.
A reminder: Canvas will be the sole learning management system supported on campus starting in the fall of 2023. ReggieNet will not be available for teaching, and it will only be accessible to instructors in a “read-only” state starting around August 18. ReggieNet will be taken offline after November 30, 2023.
Instructors are strongly encouraged to plan ahead, learn the new system, and act now to have legacy content moved from ReggieNet to Canvas.
A recording of the one-hour Q&A session held on Tuesday, May 2, is now available. This event featured answers from pilot faculty members and support staff to questions from more than 50 participants. A transcript is also available for download. View the webinar recording.
A separate message was sent to summer instructors this week, who have the option to teach using either ReggieNet or Canvas. Read more.
You can request to have the content of regular, for-credit courses (i.e., courses with catalogue numbers) from past semesters migrated from ReggieNet to Canvas using this form. Requests are being accepted until July 24, 2023. This option is best for instructors who wish to have the full structure of an old ReggieNet course transferred to Canvas. Also, an error encountered with previous migrations has been corrected, and now, complete question pools can be migrated from ReggieNet’s Tests & Quizzes tool for use in Canvas.
Please note: Student data (e.g., uploaded assignments or test scores) are not migrated to the new system. It takes several weeks for migration requests to be completed.
Several options are available for instructors and staff who have old ReggieNet ongoing or special project (i.e., non-catalogue course) sites. Please consult this guide to browse options and request the transfer of content, if needed.
A number of workshops have been added for the end of May and early June to assist instructors in transitioning to the new system. These include new workshops about Canvas Studio, a built-in video service, which will replace Microsoft Stream for the fall of 2023. More workshops will be announced for late summer. All faculty and staff may sign up for the Canvas Fundamentals for Faculty asynchronous course. This self-paced series of lessons covers all of the basics in using Canvas for teaching. The course allows you to jump between topics in your own order and at your own pace. Sign up now.
Extensive teaching support is available on the Center for Integrated Professional Development’s Canvas Instructional Support pages.
The Center’s support team is available to assist instructors and staff Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at ProDev@ilstu.edu or (309) 438-2542.
Instructors should send their students to the Technology Support Center for assistance using Canvas.
