During the week of August 12-16, we have several events to introduce you to your new academic home. Select the events that meet your needs and interests. Registration is required for these events.

The morning will begin with a welcome from Provost Ani Yazedjian. Staff from the Center for Integrated Professional Development will facilitate an introduction to teaching at Illinois State, sharing resources to help you get started with the semester. This will be followed by an introduction to research at Illinois State. The welcome event concludes with roundtable discussions centered on each participant’s college. Registration is required.

The Welcome Fair is the venue for providing new faculty with information about campus units and services. Visit with representatives from these groups and learn what these units/organizations provide to support you as new members of the ISU community. Please see the map for the units/organizations present and visit as many tables that interest you. If you visit 10 tables and complete the “Passport to ISU” card, drop your card off as you are leaving to be entered to win prizes of ISU swag and teaching resources.

New faculty and a guest are invited to a special reception hosted by President Aondover Tarhule. It will be held at the University Residence, 1000 Gregory Street, Normal, adjacent to the ISU Golf Course.

The information in these modules is designed to be a supplement to the synchronous orientation events in August. If you have already activated your ULID, use the Illinois State login, which will allow you to pause and come back to any of the modules. If you do not yet have your ULID, you will be able to enter the module as a guest, but this will not save your progress.

The orientation will cover various technology-related topics, including My Illinois State, ULID activation, the learning management system, Canvas, and information about personal server space. Bring your questions and your 9-digit University ID number or Redbird card to the session to allow for full participation. Registration is required.

Drop by at the syllabi open house and finish or polish your syllabi. If you’re done with your syllabi, we can review them for all necessary components, accessibility, and policies and practices that can help your students succeed in your class. We can also explore how you could use the first day to make it more than a “syllabi day” and have a great start to the semester! Bring your own device with you so you can work on your syllabi.
This is an open house, so you can stop in, grab a snack and leave anytime during the scheduled time. No registration required.

Inclusive learning and teaching refer to the ways in which pedagogy, curricula, and assessment are designed and delivered to engage students in learning that is meaningful, relevant, and accessible to all. In this session, we will hear from a panel of students and discuss how we can integrate practices into our teaching so that students can feel a sense of belonging and success.
