Opscan

In the Center for Integrated Professional Development, we offer Opscan services to simplify the process of grading multiple-choice exams. Our Opscan system provides fast, accurate, and efficient scanning and scoring of answer sheets, allowing faculty to focus more on teaching and less on administrative tasks.

Get Started

Learn the basics of using Opscan, from submitting jobs to understanding reports and following university policies.

Testing Sheets

Opscan offers a variety of answer sheets to use with your test. Choose the right answer sheets for your test based on the number of response options you need.

TA/GA Authorizations

To authorize a TA or GA to pick up test results, submit either the online form, an authorization slip from Opscan, or a letter on department letterhead, noting that authorizations are valid for the current academic year.

Job Request Form

To submit a job for scanning, download and complete the fillable PDF Job Request Form. Be sure to:

  • Include class details: Estimate the number of sheets, test versions, and class sections. Indicate if versions should be combined. Include course number, section(s), and test name. Provide your email. Mark “Yes” if any questions have more than one correct answer.

  • Choose report options: select which reports you'd like emailed (see the form for descriptions and samples).

  • Assign scoring: point values must be consistent within each weight section on the Opscan sheet—values can't vary within a section.

  • Indicate multiple versions: use the Misc. A field (e.g., bubble "1" for version A, bubble "2" for version B). Instruct students to do the same.

  • Include the key(s): Place each key on top of each stack of student sheets. Even though you might have more than one answer bubble filled in on your key, the students should only fill in one bubble per question.

  • Ensure grade security: results are emailed encrypted. You must have a password on file with Opscan personnel before results can be sent.

  • Authorize pickups: sign the form when picking up results. TAs/GAs must have written authorization.

  • Use the "Print on both sides" option if printing to save paper.
