The Center for Integrated Professional Development provides learning and growth opportunities for employees of Illinois State University, including graduate students with assistantships. In addition, the Center offers modest stipends to eligible participants for completing some workshops. Amounts vary based on the time committed and the work completed for the particular workshop. Stipends are awarded to those who attend and participate in all aspects of the workshop. Stipends may not be awarded after final projects are submitted.
In addition, for the annual Summer Institute:
Individuals may receive stipends for up to five (5) workshops during Summer Institute.
During Summer Institute, only one (1) of those five workshops may be a cohort experience: (Re)invent Your Course for Civic Engagement, Reinvent Your Course for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Access, or Plan for a SoTL Project.
Stipends will be issued as Additional Academic payments. Unless noted otherwise, stipends are usually paid in the month following the date of the final project submission. For example, stipends for workshops completed in July would appear on the participant's August 31 paycheck. In addition, individuals who don’t have a summer appointment (e.g., new Fall GAs, new NTTs, regular 9-month faculty) cannot be paid until their appointment begins in August.
Stipends for a few workshops are administered by other campus units. For those workshops, please check with the facilitating department for information on stipends and payment.
The University requires employees to be physically in the State of Illinois when completing the course, even if the course is offered online.
Stipends are available to tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure track faculty. Individuals whose first appointment at ISU will begin after the course must have signed an offer letter accepting the appointment AND completed an I-9 with HR prior to starting the course.
Note: Civil Service and A/P employees may not receive stipends for workshops attended during their paid working hours. Civil Service and A/P employees are responsible for working with their supervisors to ensure that they are not paid twice.
Due to considerations including assistantships and international visas, graduate student employees, including those who are the instructor of record, must have stipends pre-approved. All graduate student employees are still welcome to participate in Center for Integrated Professional Development workshops, but additional payments will only be received if pre-approved. To begin the pre-approval process, simply register for an event and indicate that you are a graduate student when prompted. Please note: For international students, the course must occur within the student’s work authorization dates, otherwise it would not meet the requirements for their visa.
If you need a special accommodation to fully participate in a Center event, please contact the Center at ProDev@ilstu.edu.
