This workshop, formerly called Design Your Course, is intended for tenure- and non-tenure-track faculty members in their first three years of service at Illinois State University. It offers a deep dive into developing effective learning outcomes, robust assessments aligned to those learning outcomes, and engaging learning activities that will help prepare your students for success. By the end of the program, you will have a full course plan that you could take directly into the classroom for the fall semester. You will learn to integrate the Framework for Inclusive Teaching Excellence throughout your course design and teaching to support equity, diversity, inclusion, and access.
A $500 stipend is available to eligible participants who complete the program. Registration is required.
This experience will kick off with an orientation session on May 16, followed by asynchronous work time through May and June. On June 13, we will meet again as an entire cohort via Zoom to share ongoing work and plan the next steps. For the remainder of the summer, there will be additional work time, culminating in a showcase presentation on August 8.
Depending on your experience level, you can expect to spend a few hours each week participating in Course Design for Early Career Faculty. This design cohort is limited to 12 participants. Applications are due on April 26, and participants will be informed by May 3.
Course Design for Early Career Faculty is a intended specifically for early career faculty, but any non-student instructional employee is invited to register. Preference will be given to those interested in designing a new course or one that has not been taught for at least three years. Priority will be given to courses that will be delivered in the 2024-2025 academic year.
Graduate students are invited to apply for Course Design for Future Faculty, which is an equivalent experience.
Due to the time commitment associated with this in-depth workshop, instructors are limited to participation in only one cohort experience during Summer Institute.
Upon completing this course, participants will be able to
