Neuroscience and the science of learning in the last few decades have provided lots of evidence for how people learn, which Jo Boaler highlights with 6 Keys in her book Limitless Minds: Learn, Lead, and Live without Barriers. Using this book and its 6 Keys, we will explore evidence-based teaching strategies that align with these keys of how the brain learns from various sources. We will explore structures, supports, and actions that align with brain science that we can incorporate into our courses to help learners succeed in our STEM courses. Ideas for each of the 6 Keys from Limitless Minds will be discussed. Come learn about the possibilities and develop ready to implement activities and/or supports aligned with a couple of the Keys for at least 1 of your courses in the upcoming academic year. Registration is required
A $400 stipend is available to eligible participants who complete the program.
Funds from an outside source: CeMAST and the HHMI Driving Changes Grant
Participants must be from the following departments/schools: Agriculture, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geography, Geology, & the Environment, Health Sciences, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Technology, Engineering.
Priority registration will be given to instructors who have participated in the Limitless Minds STEM Instructor’s Book Club. Those in the book club must register by April 25. Others will be waitlisted and will be added to the workshop as spots become available.
Due to the time commitment associated with this in-depth workshop, instructors are limited to participation in only one cohort experience during Summer Institute.
