New Faculty Orientation 2025

Welcome to Illinois State University!

New Faculty Orientation (NFO) is designed to introduce you to ISU's mission of creating an equitable and inclusive learning environment where both faculty and students are successful. On behalf of the Office of the Provost, our orientation offerings aim to support your transition by connecting you with people, resources, and opportunities across campus and the community. Welcome to your new academic home. We're excited to have you join us!

To support you as you begin your faculty journey the Center for Integrated Professional Development has created a dedicated Canvas site. This resource includes self-paced online modules and helpful information to guide your orientation experience. Please register for the events you wish to attend using the the All-in-One Form available on the Canvas site.

On the site, you will find:

Self-paced online modules on teaching, research, and campus life.
Information about in-person and virtual orientation sessions offered the week before classes start (August 11–15).
Resources to help you explore academic life at ISU and the surrounding community.

This workshop introduces the essential features of Canvas, including key settings, content creation with Pages and Modules, communication tools, Assignments, and the Gradebook. By the end, you'll have the foundation to begin confidently building your course.

Online Orientation

These self-paced modules provide valuable insights into Illinois State University's shared vision and culture. They are designed to complement the live in-person New Faculty Orientation scheduled for the week of August 11. You may access and complete the modules at your convenience.
Milner Library Orientation

An overview of how Milner Library supports your teaching and research through course reserves, textbook affordability, student research resources, faculty collaboration, book funding, and more.
