New Faculty Orientation

Illinois State University’s New Faculty Orientation is designed to acquaint new faculty with the campus mission of creating an equitable and inclusive learning environment where both faculty and students are successful. On behalf of the Office of the Provost, our orientation offerings are designed to support your transition by connecting you with people, resources, and opportunities across campus and the community. Welcome to your new academic home. We're excited to have you join us!

CIPD has teamed with other campus partners to plan events to help you begin your faculty journey. Our flexible offerings allow you to choose the sessions that best match your needs, interests, and schedule. Please register for the events you wish to attend. You can register for all orientation events through the All-in-One Registration Form.

New Faculty/Course Instructor Canvas Site

A Canvas site is coming soon for you to access as needed.. This site is used to supplement in-person orientation events. On the Canvas site, you'll find:

Modules with information on teaching, research, technology, campus, and community life.
Materials from the in-person and virtual orientation sessions offered the week before classes start (August 10–14).

Milner Library Orientation

An overview of how Milner Library supports your teaching and research through course reserves, textbook affordability, student research resources, faculty collaboration, book funding, and more. Registration is required.

This workshop introduces the essential features of Canvas and provides you with information regarding accessibility guidelines and processes to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Registration is required.

Getting Started with Research and Creative Scholarship at ISU

This workshop will be led by staff from Research and Sponsored Programs. Participants will discuss what makes a successful researcher and learn about resources available at Illinois State that will help them get started with research and creative scholarship. Registration is required.

In this session, we will discuss pedagogical practices that can engage students in meaningful, relevant, and accessible learning. We will hear from a panel of students and discuss how we can integrate practices into our teaching to help students feel a sense of belonging and success. Registration is required.

Stop by Milner Library to get support with class preparation. Topics will include syllabus review, AI and educational technology, Canvas Q & A, and more.
