Reducing Barriers to Increase Engagement: Supporting Student Success with OER and Open Pedagogy
Textbook and course material costs have increased wildly in the last few decades, outpacing college tuition, housing, and healthcare costs in the United States. As a result, many students postpone or do not purchase required course materials, which hampers their learning processes and impacts their grades. This workshop series introduces Open Educational Resources (OER), which are freely available and openly licensed course materials, providing strategies and tools for evaluating, adopting, adapting, and creating OER. It also introduces Open Pedagogy, a strategy for co-creating OER with students that supports authentic learning and active engagement. Participants are welcome to attend individual workshops or complete the entire series.
