Classroom Technology
Classrooms at Illinois State are fitted with webcams and microphones. These technologies allow instructors to record lectures, and in the event of a "suddenly blended" situation, they can help students who must quarantine join a class session remotely.
The computers at all classroom instructor stations will have webcams, document cameras connected to the computer, and Zoom installed. To request additional technologies, such as a wide-angle camera or wireless microphone for large spaces, please fill out the Learning Spaces Classroom Technology Installation Request form.
Note: Classroom improvements are designed to give instructors options. Faculty will not be expected to provide an online option in classes that require face-to-face meetings (either fully in-person or hybrid).

Classroom Technology Demos and Personal Amplifiers

All general-use classrooms at Illinois State are fitted with webcams with microphones, Zoom, and the ability to use the document camera in Zoom. Some classrooms also feature a special wide-angle camera that allows instructors to change the view from the lecture station to the whiteboard. Staff from Learning Spaces and Audio/Visual Technologies will demonstrate classroom technologies, including how to host a Zoom meeting from your classroom. No registration is required. Instructors who can’t attend in person can also view sessions on Zoom.
Those attending in person can also pick up a personal audio amplifier for use when teaching while masked.
Personal Voice Amplifiers
The University will provide a personal voice amplifier for use when teaching in spaces while wearing a mask. These devices consist of microphone and speaker, worn on the body, which will allow students to hear you speak clearly. In addition to the Classroom Tech Demos the week of August 15, amplifiers may also be picked up from Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in room 207 of the Nelson Smith building.

Standard Classroom Setup
Most classrooms feature a fixed webcam/microphone at the instructor station. This option eliminates the need to constantly disinfect handheld or lavalier microphones.
In addition, all classrooms have a document camera tied into the instructor station computer, allowing it to be selected in Zoom.

In addition, about 45 teaching spaces on campus have special wide-angle cameras, which can show both the instructor's areas and a demonstration area or whiteboard. See the current list of wide-angle camera rooms.
