Preparing students to live and work in our very complex world depends upon incorporating diverse content, curriculum, and perspectives in courses and being mindful of the diverse ways people communicate and learn. These ideas are central to the core value of Diversity and Inclusion in Illinois State’s strategic plan, Educate - Connect - Elevate.
Faculty can foster cultural competence through their participation in Reinvent Your Course for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Access. With reflection on course content and the ways in which that content is meeting the needs of the diverse student population at Illinois State University, this workshop calls faculty to foster an inclusive environment and to help themselves and their students develop more nuanced cultural understanding. A campus that is deliberate about creating inclusive learning environments can also be more successful at recruiting and retaining students from underrepresented populations.
Participants will engage in this cohort through a combination of synchronous meetings through Zoom and asynchronous activities.
A $500 stipend is available to eligible participants who complete the program. Registration is required.
Please note: all registrants will be automatically wait-listed. Registrants will receive notification when their registration is finalized.
This workshop falls under the AAC&U High-Impact Educational Practice of Diversity.
Due to the time commitment associated with this in-depth workshop, instructors are limited to participation in only one cohort experience during Summer Institute.
Upon completing this course, participants will be able to
